British Public Defy Anti-Solidarity Narrative as Members Hit Christmas Fundraising Targets
We are delighted to congratulate our member organisations who took part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2025. Together with our sister network the Small International Development Charities Network (SIDCN), members of SWIDN and SIDCN achieved remarkable success this Christmas, with all SWIDN members meeting their targets and over 68% surpassing their fundraising goals, while over 90% of SIDCN members met or exceeded their targets. Collectively, our charity members have raised more than £2.3 million in just 7 days.
Our members have told us they’ve seen both loyal supporters giving more than their previous donations, whilst others experienced a whole new audience of supporters.
Our members’ success sends a powerful message that the British public remains deeply committed to international justice and continues to support UK charities working for global solidarity.
Despite the perceived popularity of the Government’s decision to cut the UK Aid budget, and a year in which anti-solidarity narratives have dominated parts of the media, our experience on the ground tells a different story. Communities across the UK are choosing to give, choosing to engage, and choosing to support UK efforts to tackle inequality and injustice far beyond our borders.
This Christmas, after a challenging year marked by global aid cuts both within and beyond the UK, together with the cost of living crisis affecting us all, we are encouraged and proud of the commitment by the British public to end global inequality. Their continued support is a reminder that solidarity and justice remain core values across the UK.
The generosity shown this Christmas invites each of us to ask how we can continue to stand for global solidarity. Could you help raise the profile of an international development charity, let your MP know that you support global solidarity, or actively look for a new charity to support next year?
This moment should also be a signal to funders, fundraising platforms, and decision-makers to ensure international solidarity and global justice is firmly on their agenda.
