‘Climate is Water and Water is Climate’

water
Event Description

With increasing climate anxiety in our communities and work, we want to offer the SWIDN community greater support in response to the climate crisis as well as bring together the expertise that already exists across our network. We are piloting a new Working Group for 2023 which will look at the environment, the climate crisis, and how your work – whatever area of work you are in – is both impacted and has an impact.

Our pilot Climate Action Working Group will consider water insecurity. A key part of the climate crisis is good water management. Whatever your area of work, all programmes are reliant on water, since all life is reliant on water.

This Working Group brings together SWIDN members from both research and practice. This session will cover:

  • A brief overview of the climate crisis relating to water insecurity in lower and middle income countries
  • Understanding the impact of the climate and water crisis on your programmes and research
  • Recognising the role INGOs can play in tackling water insecurity in the communities they work in, particularly

o Understanding how to conduct a community water balance (for your research or your programmes)

o Including HWISE in your baseline and endline surveys

This session is aimed at all SWIDN members and their partners who are designing, implementing or fundraising for programmes. It’s also aimed at SWIDN members who are undertaking research projects, particularly in lower and middle income countries, relating to water insecurity or in contexts experiencing water insecurity.

We’re delighted to be hearing from SWIDN member Frank Water as well as UWE, Bristol. After hearing from our contributors, we’ll divide into two breakout rooms to connect with each other and share learning in greater detail. We’ll focus these on:

  1. Water-Sensitive Approaches to Programmes
  2. Water-Sensitive Approaches to Research

Register to join the Zoom call here.

Further information on our panel presenters will be available shortly.

If you would be interested in further training on this and other environmental issues, please let us know here.
