About DekiÂ
Deki is an international development charity supporting locally led, sustainable change in rural Togo. Our mission is to empower rural communities to build resilience to extreme poverty and the effects of climate change.
Working closely with our sister organisation IADES-Togo, local communities and government agencies, Deki takes a holistic approach to community development. Our work is shaped by local priorities and designed to create lasting, sustainable change.
Deki’s four strategic programmes focus on:
- supporting women to build businesses, develop leadership skills and access ethical microfinance through Women’s Empowerment Collectives;
- helping small-scale farmers form cooperatives, access finance and adopt sustainable and climate-resilient farming practices;
- rehabilitating boreholes and providing water, sanitation and hygiene training to improve access to safe water; and
- producing and distributing fuel-efficient cookstoves that reduce wood use, deforestation, carbon emissions and household air pollution.
Deki believes communities should be at the centre of their own development. Our projects are delivered in close partnership with IADES-Togo and the communities they support, with an emphasis on local ownership and long-term sustainability.
