We rebuild tropical fisheries with coastal communities

Blue Ventures is a marine conservation organisation that puts people first. We support coastal fishers in remote and rural communities to rebuild fisheries and restore ocean life.

Our work began two decades ago in Madagascar’s remote coastal communities and is growing globally. Across a dozen countries, we’re partnering with traditional fishers and community organisations to design, scale, strengthen and sustain fisheries management and conservation at the community level. We bring partners together in networks to advocate for reform, and share tools and best practices to support fishing communities across the globe.

Blue Ventures is growing rapidly, and we are at an inflection point in our journey, having secured multi-year support for expansion in new geographies.

Summary job description

We are currently recruiting an experienced fundraising professional to lead Blue Ventures’ fundraising and development efforts. The position will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of our fundraising, development and grant management to nurture high-value funding relationships and secure resources to support growth of our work and impact.

The role will be a pivotal position within our senior management team, working closely with leaders, field colleagues, donors and partner organisations to ensure the effective resourcing of high impact, scalable marine conservation initiatives.

We’re looking for someone with excellent leadership and partnership development experience, a high degree of emotional intelligence, and sensitivity to the needs of high value donor relationships. The successful candidate will be attuned to the needs and interests of colleagues and partner communities and organisations.

We are seeking a passionate, articulate and highly motivated individual who will be pragmatic and resourceful in identifying and pursuing opportunities for future funding partnerships.

The successful candidate will be an accomplished communicator, showing originality, crisp writing, and clarity of thought in their written work. They will demonstrate an ability to write compelling pitches, and to communicate complex environmental and development issues clearly.

We’re looking for someone who thrives in environments that are dynamic, fast-paced, collegiate and ambitious, and who has a proven track record of communicating effectively and professionally with funders, delivering high quality written work and managing competing priorities to meet deadlines reliably.

The role will lead a team of highly skilled fundraisers, and will be responsible for mentoring and supporting the professional development of colleagues across the organisation.

The role entails working as part of an interdisciplinary and international team, with excellent opportunities for professional development. The successful candidate will report to Blue Ventures’ Executive Director, and will be based in Dakar, Nairobi, Mombasa, Madagascar, Denpasar, London or Bristol, with occasional overseas travel to work with colleagues, field partners and donors.
