Communications and Engagement Coordinator- Maternity Leave Cover at CHASE Africa

CHASE Africa is a growing UK-based international NGO working to support rural communities in East Africa. We believe that improving the health of women and girls through addressing their Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and making health services more accessible and acceptable, leads to healthier communities, which in turn contributes to healthier natural environments.

CHASE Africa supports local partner organisations in East Africa to run community health programmes.  CHASE Africa is a small, friendly and dedicated team, based in North Somerset, that is going through an exciting period of transition and growth,  

 

CHASE Africa is looking for maternity cover for one year for the role of Communication and Engagement Coordinator who will play a key role in helping to achieve these targets.

The Communications and Engagement Coordinator will be responsible for all communications and supporter engagement by producing excellent and compelling communications materials. They will build audiences through managing CHASE Africa’s social media platforms, website, print materials and press relations. The coordinator will play a pivotal role in communicating CHASE Africa’s work in East Africa to engage existing supporters and attract new followers and funders, helping to achieve our strategic objectives.

The communications and engagement coordinator will work closely with the fundraising and programmes team, as well as local partner organisations, to create and communicate appealing stories and content which inspire members of the public to support our work. The role aims to engage supporters with our work, increase individual giving through campaigns, social media and our website and maximize new opportunities.

This position reports to a member of the senior management team. This office is located near Frome. Hybrid working with one day a week in the office. 

Job Description

Coordinate CHASE Africa’s external communications.

  • Manage the CHASE Africa website (in CRAFT), ensuring pages are engaging and up to date.
  • Manage CHASE Africa’s Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and YouTube accounts to grow followers, and increase engagement and donations.
  • Coordinate the production of our Annual Impact Report.
  • Produce and promote CHASE Africa’s quarterly supporter newsletter.
  • Create new, engaging content for the CHASE Africa website and social media platforms.
  • Coordinate the commissioning of a CHASE Africa video.
  • Ensure consistency of messaging of all communications materials.
  • Coordinate the production of print materials, such as leaflets and training materials, using your own skills or working with graphic designers.
  • Work with the team to identify communications needs across the organisation and prepare strategies, messaging and work plans in response to these needs.

Lead on supporter engagement and campaigns

  • Lead on putting together virtual fundraising campaigns including The Big Give and Remember a Charity Week to increase donations to CHASE Africa’s work.
  • Manage mailings through MAILCHIMP and communications on our CRM Donorfy.
  • Coordinate communications for CHASE Africa’s 25th anniversary campaign in 2025.

Build communications capacity within CHASE Africa’s partner network

  • Support CHASE Africa partner organisations and programmes staff to procure high-quality, engaging project images, case studies and stories.
  • Build the capacity of partners through providing training in person, online or in written format.

Other

  • Contribute to the delivery of CHASE Africa’s fundraising and communication strategy
  • Ensure all work undertaken complies with data protection and GDPR rules.
  • Attend and participate in Staff and Trustee meetings, as required.
  • Support other communications tasks as required.

Hours, Remuneration and Contract

This role is a 1-year fixed-term contract. The role is initially for 2.5/3.00 days a week, with the potential to increase subject to funding.

The salary offered is £ 28,000- £ 32,000 full-time equivalent, depending on experience.
