Swahili Language Class- Taster Session

In celebration of World Swahili Day, SWIDN are pleased to announce the launch of a new, online and accessible opportunity for our members in partnership with Lugha Swahili School. Unaweza kujifunza Kiswahili na SWIDN sasa!! You can now learn Swahili with SWIDN!
As part of our focus on resourcing our members towards locally led development practice, we are offering an exciting opportunity to a limited number of people to learn and improve their knowledge of Kiswahili. Lugha Swahili School is a UK-based online platform that offers Tanzanian Kiswahili lessons from beginners to intermediate level.
SWIDN are proud to launch this programme on Thursday 18th July at 1pm – 2pm. This virtual online Kiswahili class will be led by native Tanzanian, English-speaking tutors and offer appropriate language training in response to the levels required by those who attend.
This opportunity is particularly targeted at our UK-based members working with partners in Tanzania, Kenya and parts of Uganda where Kiswahili is spoken. It is also open to any SWIDN members wishing to improve their language skills of one of the top 10 most spoken languages in the world, the only non-colonial, cross-border language, and a major world language spoken by 200 million people across the world. Kiswahili is also the first African language to be feted by the United Nations and one of the official languages of the African Union.
Please register here for the launch of our Kiswahili Classes, which we intend to run monthly online between July – December 2024 as a trial period, and extended further depending on interest. Further dates for these online classes will be confirmed after the launch.
If you can’t attend the launch but would like to be added to our Kiswahili email list for future opportunities and class updates, please email info@swidn.org.uk with the subject line ‘Habari at SWIDN’.
Please note this session is for SWIDN members only. Places are extremely limited so please let us know if you can no longer attend so we can offer the place to someone else.
