MAEEVA Charity was co-founded by Soandro (who is from Ambovombe, Madagascar), Ruth and a group of other friends based in Bristol and Ambovombe.
Soandro grew up in the region of Ambovombe, Madagascar and in his youth took advantage of education opportunities presented through visiting researchers, teachers, and radio broadcasts such as the BBC world service. Convinced of the power of good education he determined to set up a charity to make a positive change in his home environment. He said: “Education is what the development of the world depends upon. Without education we will keep talking about global warming, deforestation, illiteracy, malnutrition... The only way to address these global issues is through a good standard of appropriate education. It is what will transform people’s lives.”
The organisation's three main areas of work are: school facilities, education and public health.
