Title: Head of Fundraising and Development
Location: Cardiff, UK (with travel throughout the UK)
Reports to: Global Director of External Affairs (GDEA)
Contract type: Permanent, full time
Salary: £38,000 - £42,000 pa
Purpose of the role:
This role will shape, develop and deliver UP’s fundraising strategy, significantly developing new business and nurturing our existing supporter base across a range of income sources, ensuring success against targets and new business success.
Responsible for: The fundraising team and delivery of organisational fundraising targets, with specific focus on new business success
Specific functions and responsibilities:
•Support the GDEA in the leadership and delivery of the external affairs, positioning and fundraising strategies.
•Stay well informed with the funding landscape, maximising opportunities and mitigating risks accordingly.
•Manage an effective portfolio of fundraising channels across high net-worth individuals, individual donors, corporates, institutions, trusts, foundations, digital giving, community fundraising, institutional / governmental funding, public campaigns, legacies and other innovative initiatives identified.
•Develop fundraising offerings around our core proposition for different donors – and manage the deployment of these to build productive partnerships which support UP’s distinctive organisational positioning, including through leveraging the potential of the heritage brought by UPs mergers with other organisations (e.g. on sport for development from the London 2012 Olympics-linked International Inspiration which became part of UP in 2016).
•Manage the UP fundraising budget and ensure strong systems to track income against target.
•Develop and manage a strong and effective relationship management strategy with UP’s donors, including through its contact management database system – where there are plans for significant overhaul.
Team leadership and relationships
•Manage the activities, progress and welfare of the Fundraising Team, including staff based in Bakewell (Village Aid).
•Work closely with team members in the New York office (KCA), ensuring collaboration maximises our fundraising globally.
•Work closely with the Business Development Team and Communications Team to ensure synergy in work activity and provide mutual support and collaboration.
•Commission and manage relationships with external suppliers such as agencies and freelancers.
•Ensure good liaison with our country programmes around the world on fundraising initiatives.
Privacy and data compliance
•Ensure compliance with donor data and fundraising standards, legal and other requirements, including GDPR.
•Relish shaping, building and delivering a new strategy and team in an organisation with high ambition and aspiration to shape and set agendas
•Drive, determination, creativity and ambition to make things happen
•Proven ability and experience of driving income-generating strategies and an entrepreneurial, go-getting mind set
•Experience of managing and leading strategies for, and delivery of, a range of fundraising approaches and channel management,
•Proven ability to personally build individual and organisational relationships with a range of potential types of funders
•Ability to understand and work across a wide range of cultural and political contexts reflecting UP’s international presence
•Experience of line management of staff
•A collaborative team player
•Welsh language skills (desirable)
•Knowledge of the funding context within UK (essential) and within Wales (desirable)
